How each gift arrives

Those 13 days are not modules, workbooks or a giant video library.

Each gift is either a light nervous-system practice or a gentle story-shift scene, offered in four versions so your body can choose what it can say yes to today.

1. Read it in silence.

A short, clear text that lands immediately.

2. Read it with the piano soundtrack.

Press play on the original piano piece, then read alongside it. This gives the practice a gentle rhythm and a more immersive feel.

3. Listen to a calm voice.

Just press play. A calm voice guides you from start to finish, so you don’t have to figure anything out.

4. Let voice and music hold you.

A soft voice with gentle music underneath. Ideal when you want to feel supported and carried through, not talked at.

Listen and read at the same time, if you like, with voice only or voice and music.

If words feel like too much on some days

You simply use the companion soundtrack on its own, or as a gentle layer in the background.

This isn’t “music added on top”.

The soundtrack is a single piano piece, performed by one of the creators. Depending on the companion, it is either a well known classical work or an original composition shaped to the theme, so it can hold you while the words do their work.

For the voice with music version, we use a different, lighter background bed, designed to stay out of the way for anyone who finds melody distracting.

And on the days when you have no appetite for anything, you can simply press play and let the piano piece be enough.

Why "companions built from gifts" (not tasks)

For a busy, tired, or dysregulated nervous system, words matter.

  • “Task” suggests effort, performance, judgment.

  • “Gift” suggests receiving, softening, a moment you’re allowed to enjoy.

  • Course” suggests a curriculum to keep up with, progress to track, and a subtle pressure to do it “properly”.

  • “Companion” suggests someone walking beside you, gently guiding and simplifying the whole process, not adding to it.

Underneath, each gift is still evidence-informed. All of our companions are 13 days. Not 7, not 15, not 30.

How we keep it fair and who we are

We’re Natalie, a psychologist, and George, a writer, musician and guide. We’ve spent years helping people under pressure, and exploring how words, music and voice can shape nervous system wellbeing.

We both know what it’s like to hold a lot for other people, while our own systems quietly run on empty.

When we created Not a Course, we made ourselves a small pact:

A gentle first step

You don’t have to believe any of this yet. Let your body decide.

Is Not a Course a course or a therapy?

It’s not a course, and it’s not therapy. It’s a short, evidence informed companion made of tiny gifts that support your nervous system in everyday life, and invite a little more warmth and play back in.

What is nervous system regulation, in simple terms?

Nervous system regulation is your body’s ability to downshift from stress and come back to a steadier state.

Is this only for people who are struggling?

No, not at all. You don’t need to have a “problem” to be here. These are small wellbeing gifts for real days, whether you’re under pressure or simply want to feel better.

I’m not very “into wellbeing”. Will this still suit me?

Yes. This isn’t a lifestyle or a routine to keep up with. It’s a simple, low pressure way to step out of the noise. You can pause, repeat, skip, or come back on a different day. Even one minute can be enough to feel a little better.

Do I need to be calm, spiritual, or good at meditation for this to work?

No. These gifts are made for real life and real moods. You don’t need to empty your mind or do anything perfectly.

How much does a companion cost?

Each companion is €45.

That includes lifetime access to a 13 day journey of 13 gifts (practices). Each gift comes in two lengths, a 1 minute version and a 4 to 5 minute version.
